I picked this up at a film memorabilia show as a present for my beloved, probably 20 years ago.  It didn't say anything on the back to identify it, but the scene was so wild we didn't fret about such things and into a handsome frame it went, and onto the wall of every kitchen in every house we've ever lived in.

Everyone who has ever come through our kitchen has stopped and marveled at it, and at one point some years back I decided to digitally restore it and go large, as is my wont.  From that point on it became a source of hilarious frustration every time I would display it at a craft show or street fair.  You see, I am somewhat of a film guy.  I founded and run The Lawn Chair Drive-In, which is the longest running free outdoor film series in America, and adored by many for the delightful and offbeat programming and the general groove scene we've created and maintained for all these years.  Remember, it is only recently that anyone with a DVD projector from BestBuy can set up and show movies in the park, but we did and still do beat ourselves half to death finding great copies of amazing films on 16mm.  Always a challenge in the past, and even more so these days.

Anyway, when I set up prints I like to let people know that there is a good story that goes with every image we work with, and to please not be shy about asking to know more.  Inevitably, out of all the works on display, someone would point at this one and say "Well, what can you tell me about THIS?"  Ouch!  I then had to explain that, film guy that I am, I actually knew nothing about this one, try as I might to find out.  Then one day this rather senior couple were perusing the display and I saw the one gentleman point at this print and say to his partner "Hellzapoppin', Olsen and Johnson!"  It was one of those moments where I had to check myself before I crushed someone half my size and twice my age with a hug of gratitude!

This scene, along with what is likely the most famous jitterbugging dance sequence ever captured on film, is available for viewing on Youtube.  Not kidding!

A NOTE ON OUR PROCESS, OUR CHOICES AND THE QUALITY OF THE GRAPHIC CRAFTSMANSHIP THAT GOES INTO OUR PRINTS.

Every print we deem exciting enough to present to the public via our Etsy store or available here at our studio has gone through a number of steps.  The first of those is always discovering and falling in love with an obscure image, always an original that we can hold in our hands.  That image is speaking to us, sometime screaming “Don’t leave me here.  See what I am, what I was, what I can be, what I SHOULD be!”

There is a real sense of excitement involved, and a great many smiles and knowing grins when we make that deal and bring that ancient print, that battered photo, that scrap of ephemera that contains some scrap of genius from an unknown commercial artist home with us, knowing already how we mean to approach its restoration.

There is the heady promise of a further hunt just as real as what drags a weekend fisherman out of bed at 3AM to work a favorite brook as we start our research, looking for that great backstory, and both ready and willing to tumble down as many rabbit holes as are revealed to us to get that story.

Then there is a meticulous digital restoration that is as often as much fun as riding a vintage Moto Guzzi on a winding coastal road.  I don’t care if that sounds crazy, it really is like jumping in the saddle!  So many choices, so many chances to take to subtly or spectacularly give new life to otherwise permanently obscure images.

This dedication and the ongoing rush of joy in the accomplishment of it, and the opportunity to share the results in our studio and here on Etsy, is the fire of passion that keeps these engines roaring. We make every effort to ensure our customers are not just satisfied but thrilled, and we happily stand 100% behind our work.
