From a series of original copperplate engravings by Johann Wilhelm Baur for a 1641 edition of the Ovidii Metamorphosis. Originally showing classical Latin, ecclesiastic Latin and Old German text below the image, here we present the classical Latin version.  In the German and German-American section of The Grand Review, you'll find a full set of these with the beautiful Olde German lettering.  We would like to thank one of my son's favorite teachers, Magistra Margaret Roberts from Friends' Central School, for her translation from classical Latin to English. We are in her debt (and man, oh man, was the experience fun!).

One of a number of Ulysses companions thus transformed by Circe for their bad, piggish behavior.  Good of the artist to let us see a little of the individual action, rather than a group zapping!
